Failed UI Design

// May 19th, 2009 // Comments Off // Life, Random Thoughts

Sitting here using my computer thinking about user interfaces got me thinking that of all the user interfaces… what do I use the most?
No its not software… its hardware.   In fact the keyboard and mouse are my most used interfaces.

The Mouse:
For years I’ve had a mouse with an odd middle button that never was used because it activated a scroll feature that seemed to be more trouble than it was worth.  I also had a mouse that had 4 extra buttons and 2 scroll wheels.  I ended up only using one of the scroll wheels and one of the extra buttons as a back button for browsing the internet.
Its silly that the middle mouse button by default doesn’t really do anything useful.   It would be cool if it did a function like "minimize all windows" or "mute audio", "double click with a single click".   I feel like no one has considered utilizing the current UI before just adding buttons.

The Keyboard:
I don’t know where to begin with all of the "Internet" and "Media" keyboards.  They all add functional buttons like "My Documents" "Play, stop etc" "volume up, down and mute".  I don’t think I’ve ever used the favorites, my documents,mail or web browser buttons.  But I have used the volume and play/stop a ton!
I then see the classic keyboard and wonder why we still have the "Scroll Lock, Pause/Break, Print Screen, and Insert" keys!
For my earlier days I didn’t use the home, end, page up or page down keys but I’ve found them useful over the years… so they can stay haha.
Apple did a great job adding innovation to their keyboard design but their one button mouse just seems like apple fired the wrong person at the wrong time.

What would make this world a better place?
For the PC to drop the middle button because no one uses it and for apple to take all of those extra middle buttons and add them to their mice to give them two buttons… then I will be happy using either system because as you know I like both Windows and Mac.

I figured it out!!! Let me out let me out, let me in let me in!

"Let me out, let me out, let me out… LET ME In Let me in let me in"
Its Zazu from The Lion King.

Oh this makes me so happy… its been bothering me for so long haha.

Quick Thought before bed

// May 10th, 2009 // Comments Off // Random Thoughts

I saw star trek really late tonight and it was pretty good but the ending was way too short.

During the movie I had a thought that was completely unrelated to the movie haha… gee the fact that my mind was wandering during the movie proves that it wasn’t that good.
Anywho I had the idea that love and romance are 2 separate choices.

I’m pretty sure love grows…its not that we fall in love with people its that our love grows for people.
Romance is a mutual thing.
Infatuation without love or romance is lust.

Don’t really take any of this to heart as I’m not even sure about it yet haha… its late and they are just random thoughts that I need to spend more time studying the bible on and all.

High Demand & Little Quantity

Admirers of art are a dime a dozen but creators of art are the real admirers of art.  The ones that will put the work into it to make something come to life are the people who truly love art.

Cerama Bryte

I can’t be the first person to ever think about tasting cerama bryte.

Seriously it looks creamy and smells like lemons… what could go wrong with digesting harmful cleaning chemicals?

pumpernickel

// March 9th, 2009 // Comments Off // Random Thoughts

Man I just thought about it… I haven’t had pumpernickel bread in forever.
I should get some.

Fun Fact from WiseGeek:

The name pumpernickel has a rather unappetizing etymology. Pumpen is the Anglo Saxon word for flatulence, and Nickel refers to Satan. Therefore pumpernickel can be translated as Satan’s gas. This particular explanation focuses on the fact that many people have trouble digesting true German pumpernickel bread, resulting in some flatulence.

The American form of pumpernickel bread, also simply called dark rye, is usually quite digestible, most resembling a standard American rye bread. It’s also a popular choice in Jewish delicatessens.

Just something I thought up on my way home from church…think about it.

Distrusting Bottle Cap

// February 24th, 2009 // Comments Off // Random Thoughts

Why do I put the cap back on my water bottle after every sip?  The bottle sits on my desk.   Its as if I’m saying to the water "hey I don’t trust you to stay still".

I seriously don’t know how this water puts up with me ;-P

A few things happened this weekend…
Nikki came back from new zealand and it was great seeing her.  I think I enjoyed seeing erin with nikki just as much.. something about those two that just makes me smile.  I got to hang out with the childrens ministry on wednesday and saturday this week so it was fun, the kids were really good saturday night!

RANDOM THOUGHT: Memory Foam Mattress Toppers are the best thing you can ever get for a bed… seriously you’ll fall asleep so fast!
I need to cut the one I have to fit my bed so I’ve had it on the futon recently and these past two nights I’ve fallen asleep on the futon haha.

Erin came over yesterday and layed down some awesome vocals for a new skinny jeans & v-necks song called "share".
check it out on myspace.com/skinnyjeansandvnecks

"Share" is a poetic love song to God.  The postal service wrote a lot of poetic love songs and thats one of the main reasons I loved that project and I was thinking why not write those types of songs towards God.  I’ve always enjoyed singing songs to God that tell him how I feel about Him in the present.  I find a lot of lyrics are about what He has done, what He is about to do, what I’m going to do for Him, what I’d like to do for Him but a lot of them miss the simple point of being open and genuine just like we’d write a normal love song to a person.  So all in all I’m excited to have a song like this completed that others can sing along with :-)

It was awesome outside today!  Clear blue sunny skies.  I was walking around outside in a t-shirt :-)
I can’t wait till the weather gets warm and sunny constantly!

I’ve got more to blog about but I’ve got a headache and its almost bedtime.

Trust

I’m glad that God trusts me.  I’m glad that he gives me a chance without judging me off the bat like most people.
